2024 US Open odds: Top sleeper picks in the field for Pinehurst this week (2024)

Ayrton OstlyUSA TODAY

The 2024 U.S. Open is just a day away with some of the top golfers in the world set for the third major championship of the year. Pinehurst Resort & Country Club is one of the top public courses in the country and is hosting the U.S. Open for the first time since 2014.

World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler is fresh off a win at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio. That's his fifth win of 2024. He's already won one major championship this year in the Masters Tournament. He has more than twice the total points than world No. 2-ranked Xander Schauffele, who won the second major of the year and the first of his career in the PGA Championship.

It's no surprise then to see the two major championship winners lead the latest odds for the win in Pinehurst. But we could see a new major championship winner come Sunday. Here's the top long shot bets for this weekend's U.S. Open and their odds to win, per BetMGM.

2024 U.S. Open: Sleeper picks roundup

Chris Breece, PGATour.com: Max Homa (+5000)

Breece says: "This almost hit for me at the Masters, so I’ll try it again. Homa has the exact pedigree that fits the mold of first-time major winner you didn’t think was going to happen. He has two top 10s in his last three majors. Perhaps the narrative is coming to an end."

Adam Christensen, Golf.com: Aaron Rai (+15000)

Christensen writes: "The double gloves he uses for extra grip will be an advantage in the humid Southern climate, giving him a slight leg up on the competition. He’s also extremely accurate off the tee and above average in approaches and around the greens. If he can magically conjure up a good putting week, maybe he can pull off a miracle."

World No. 8 won't compete in Pinehurst: Jon Rahm withdraws from 2024 US Open due to foot infection

CBS Sports: Hideki Matsuyama (+4500)

Patrick McDonald says: "Matsuyama is among the leaders in proximity from over 200 yards, bogey avoidance and strokes gained around the green -- all of which will be important at Pinehurst. The major champion has slowed since his torrid start to 2024 playing only three times since the Masters, but he flashed signs at Memorial that his game (and his health) are close to, if not, 100%. He's made seven straight cuts in the U.S. Open, including a runner-up finish in 2017 and a backdoor top five at The Country Club two years ago."

Bob Harig, Sports Illustrated: Dean Burmester (+10000)

Harig writes: "The LIV Golf player won a LIV event prior to the Masters, has been strong in other LIV tournaments, tied for 12th at the PGA Championship and qualified through the Florida event to make it to Pinehurst."

The Athletic: Min Woo Lee (+6600)

Dennis Esser says: "[Lee] has gained more than 4.4 strokes ball-striking in three of his last four events. He gained over 6.3 strokes with his short game at the PGA Championship and finished fifth at the U.S. Open in 2023. Lee is built for big moments, and he has an imagination around the greens."
