Our Teachers — Metta Yoga (2024)

Mila is the founder of Metta Yoga. As a former school teacher, administrator, and professor of education, for Mila, teaching yoga is the marrying of two passions. She completed her yoga teacher training with Jonny Kest at the Center for Yoga in Birmingham, Michigan and is E-RYT 500 and RYCEP certified.

Mila has over a decade of experience leading classes, workshops, retreats and teacher trainings. She also serves as the yoga editor of Natural Awakenings Atlanta magazine and is a lululemon legacy ambassador. Mila considers herself a lifelong learner and continually looks towards deepening her own knowledge and practice of yoga.

Mila provides a safe space for students to not only meet themselves where they are, as they are, but also to seek deeper connections to their bodies, minds, and breath. She guides her students through mindful movements, incorporating her love of music and providing meaningful messages through themed classes. She teaches a variety of formats including Vinyasa Flow, Power, Yin, Slow Flow, Restorative, Ashtanga Remix, and Aerial Yoga.

Mila believes that yoga is not something you do; it is part of who you are, and that a quiet mind, an open heart, and deep breaths serve us beautifully, both on and off the mat.

Lois Cromwell

Lois is the founder and owner of Sonda Yoga. She took her very first yoga class in 1999 and from that moment on fell in love with yoga. Since then she has studied extensively. She completed her first 200-hour teacher training in 2003 and fell in love with Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga. Lois completed her first 500 Hour Teacher training in 2014, a second 500-hour training in 2015, and most recently completed another 300 Hour Teacher training in 2019. It’s safe to say she loves to be a student. Lois teaches Ashtanga Vinyasa, Vinyasa, Yin, and Meditation. Her passion is teaching yoga and training students to become yoga teachers. When she’s not practicing or teaching yoga she’s spending time with her husband, three wonderful daughters, and extended family and friends.

Jamie discovered yoga in 2012, while looking for a way to get back in shape after her first child was born. After taking a yoga class, she knew she had found something more meaningful than just a fitness class.

Soon after, she took her first Ashtanga class and immediately felt connected to and intrigued by the practice. She discovered that breath and movement could quiet her anxious mind and that the Ashtanga’s benefits reached beyond the physical.

After six years of practice (and two more babies), Jamie decided it was time to take her practice further. She completed both the 200 and 300 hour LifePower Yoga Teacher Training, a program designed by Jonny Kest, under the guidance of Mila Burgess. Jamie’s degree in Physical Therapist Assisting provides her with knowledge of anatomy and physiology that is useful in understanding alignment and modifications for students’ varying physical needs. Broadening her skill set, she completed 36 hours in Thai Yoga Bodywork training with Michael Sitzer.

Always looking to enhance her teaching, Jamie participates in a variety of continuing education opportunities, seeks guidance from fellow teachers, and most often, learns from students. As a teacher, Jamie is knowledgeable and compassionate while supporting students in their practice.

Jamie is passionate about Ashtanga and believes that the foundation she has built through her personal practice is present in every format that she teaches. She feels that that her job as a yoga teacher is to hold space for students in whatever ways they need it. She is honored to share her knowledge and support students in their practice.

Meghann Gavin

Meghann was first introduced to yoga during college but didn’t really fall in love with the practice until later in life.

Always the athlete with a little dancer mixed in, Meghann finally embraced the practice of yoga and found an incredible melding of mind, body, and spirit. However, she never planned on teaching. She was a group fitness instructor and felt that was her path. It took quite a few more years for her to embrace her new calling and enroll in her first yoga teacher training. She is now a 500-hour registered yoga teacher who crafts guided experiences for her students. As a former music school teacher, she weaves in her love music and education in every practice. She is a self-proclaimed “goofy graceful klutz” who creates a welcoming environment for anyone who rolls out a mat with her. She teaches a variety of formats including Vinyasa, Ashtanga Remix, Power, Gentle, Yin, and Restorative.

When she’s not practicing, teaching, or singing…she’s spending time with her husband, three children, and their Yorkiepoo, Scout, who loves playing fetch when Meghann is on her mat!
