The 18 best spots for oxtails in Houston (2024)

Lucille's is a charming and nostalgic restaurant that puts a contemporary twist on classic Southern dishes. Owned by chef Chris Williams, who draws inspiration from his extensive world travels and culinary education, the restaurant is housed in a vintage home, creating an inviting and cozy atmosphere. The menu features modern interpretations of beloved Southern favorites like shrimp & grits, fried green tomatoes, and chili biscuits. Lucille's also pays homage to Williams' great-grandmother, Lucille B.

I recommend the hot chicken sandwich and oxtail omelette. The chicken in the sandwich was amazing! The glaze they use is definitely delicious and taste fresh. My friend got the French toast and it’s a bit too sweet for me and it has a different taste to it. Not your original French toast for sure. I also got the watermelon sangria. The drink was small and I don’t think it was worth $9. It didn’t have a fresh taste to it either. Overall, the food was amazing and I do recommend coming here!

So, what's for lunch? My friend and I decided to go somewhere that was new to both of us, so we were off to Lucille's!It's a fairly small, intimate space, but I liked the ambience of the place. We started with an appetizer of fried green tomatoes, which I highly recommend. We both chose the hamburger with french fries, and they were fantastic. They don't have mayo, but they have something very similar that tastes even better. Everything was very hot, very fresh, and had a homemade taste that will keep me coming back again and again. We both left with to-go boxes full of food that we couldn't finish.Waiters and waitresses have the power to make or break a visit to any restaurant, so I want to point out that the waitstaff here were amazing. Very knowledgeable, kind, and attentive. If you've never been there, I want to point out that the parking was a little tricky. We pulled into the parking lot right next to Lucille's, but then realized it was only for the business that's located next-door (towing enforced). As far as we could tell, valet parking ($10) was the only option.Overall, I really loved Lucille's and will definitely be back.

Everything about the visit was exceptional! Friendly staff, great food, and drinks. The Oxtail tamales were fantastic. The Truffle Mac and cheese was good however too much oil for my pallet. The yard bird meal reminded me of Gram's cooking. I would recommend Lucille's my friends and family.

Great dinner everything was absolutely delicious. Service was a bit slow but I understand there is still a lot of places short staffed including my own business. co*cktails we’re delicious, nice and unique mixers. Octopus appetizer was amazing and our favorite appetizer, biscuits were ok for them being their signature appetizer. Pork and beans main course was overall very good, just lacked a bit of salt. Braised oxtails was just perfect! Overall had a great experience and we see ourselves coming back in the future.

SO GOOD. Went for Saturday brunch and thankfully had a reservation because there was a small wait. Valet is $10 but there’s parking around if you’re ok with walking a block or so. Drinks and food were all amazing!! We ordered multiple drinks, the fried green tomatoes, baked mac and cheese, oxtail omelette and catfish and grits. The fried green tomatoes were my favorite out of everything followed by the catfish and grits. We were seated outside which was really lovely and the live music, though a bit loud at times, was a really nice plus. All the staff was amazing. Will definitely be back again and will be recommending.

This restaurant was recommended for brunch for my family group. I really like how they were able to accommodate a party of 8. They have indoor seating on both floors and a bar. While I was waiting for my party to be seated, I ordered a watermelon sangria, which was very refreshing. When we were seated, we were quickly greeted by our server, who also delivered prompted ordering of our food. I ordered the chicken fried Benedict. It was nice. however, I requested my eggs be poached hard and they were not. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meals and we everything went smoothly.

First time here and we ordered first OJ & Brut Champagne Mimosas! They were the best! We had the best server who really gave us recommendations and great service ! I can’t remember her name 😣 but we started with the Fried tomatoes ! You need to get this ! It is so good ! I then had the Country Benedict and it was so delicious! Overall a great experience and would recommend this place 10X !!!

Vibe- This is a nice black owned restaurant near the museum district! It seems like a nice spot to stop in for happy hour during the week. There’s a good amount of seating inside.Customer service- Great, the server my family and I had, Chris was great!Food/drinks- I hate that there weren’t many vegan or vegetarian options on the menu (why I went with an overall 4 star review) but I did enjoy the Brussels sprouts (removed the egg), fried green tomatoes, and the baked Mac & Cheese.Parking- There’s valet and some lots near by.

Incredible service and delicious food!We had an ice coffee craving and our server went above and beyond to provide what we needed to make our own! (Note Lucile's roasts their own coffee but they only serve hot coffee at the restaurant). We made sure to purchase a couple of coffee bags to bring back with us a taste of Lucille's.Everything we tried was well seasoned, well portioned, and tasted very fresh. Their rolls is what started their legacy, you must definitely try them! This restaurant was an easy walk after visiting the art museums.

My husband and I were in town for a conference and had the good fortune to hang out with his old Navy buddy and his wife. They recommended Lucille’s and it turned out to be a fantastic choice. I was struck by the cool vibe and trendy, diverse crowd. The service and the food was incredible. I absolutely recommend the fried green tomatoes with shrimp on top. Super tasty! Everyone was happy with their entree. So unique and flavorful. If you’re looking for good food to share with good friends, check out this spot. You will be happy you did.

Lucille's was on my must try list. My visit was very pleasant. The staff greeted us quickly and we were seated at the bar to watch football. Rose, the bartender, was so kind and she provided great recommendations. We decided to try the shrimp and grits with a side bacon. The shrimp and bacon were delicious but the grits were just okay. The grits were savory but I prefer my grits plain so that I can enhance them according to my preference. Aside from that, this was a great experience and I will definitely return again to try a few more dishes!

Went here on a Sunday it was extremely busy had to wait about an hour but it was worth the wait. Ended up sitting at the bar because it was faster and we didn’t want to wait anymore. The catfish was amazing, best catfish I’ve had all 2024. Also had the Mac and cheese and French toast. Everything was decent and made with love. Would definitely visit this location again when I’m back in Houston. Let me not forget about the staff hear. The hostesses were amazing as well as the bartenders.

If you’re in the Houston area, definitely check out Lucille’s. I highly highly recommend making a reservation, it gets packed! Parking is mostly street parking and tough to find. They do offer “complimentary” valet service. We did Brunch on a Saturday and loved it. We opted for outdoor patio seating since we had a baby with us. Loved it. It was a beautiful day and their outdoor seating is really nice, they have shaded areas above the tables and also had live music. We ordered the chili bites for our appetizer, definitely a tasty bite size snack! Think chili filling inside some biscuit dough topped with melted cheese and some sort of southwest taco seasoning aioli. Then we ordered the oxtail omelet (really good), croissant French toast with chicken wings (good, croissant was kind of dry, wish it was a little more buttery and soaked a little more in the French toast batter) and the catfish with grits (amazing, love the cornmeal light batter, must order!). Service was great. Our server Scorpio was really sweet. Very personable and kind. Other team members were on top of clearing the table as well. Overall a wonderful experience!

Came to celebrate my sisters birthday. Our waiter was amazing that day, Very friendly atmosphere and staff as well. The grits and oxtails was very delicious, the cornbread wasn’t flavorful at all it tasted just like water and bread, the mash potatoes and fried chicken was plated nicely, the greens and mash was AMAZING the fried chicken on the other hand had NO FLAVOR, and we sat right at the entrance of the kitchen and saw the chicken on the bottom of the cabinet about 2inches from the floor so that was a bit disturbing. The drinks were good as well. Overall it was a good night good food besides the water flavored cornbread and flavorless chicken.

Loved the vibe here! My girls and I visited from Philly. Quincy was super kind and accommodating to our unique circ*mstances. Food was top tier! Enjoyed the oxtail omelet..whew! And the chicken and waffles were amazing. Gotta try the fried green tomatoes and chili biscuits to start, so delicious! Thanks for a great experience!

What a beautiful, beautiful restaurant and experience. It was easy to see how loved this space is, from the art, to the service, to the food and drinks. We sat and laughed and talked and all that love and warmth spread out to the people around us, we ended up chatting with the other patrons beside us, sharing recommendations and laughs. With the game playing in the background, it was like eating the most soul-nurturing food with dear friends and family.

I’ve heard about Lucille’s continuously since moving here and was excited to try it for brunch with some friends. We made our reservation through OpenTable, and were told that we had to all be present to be seated, which was no problem. Upon arriving with our reservation and all of us being present to be seated, we still had to wait for a table which was just a little confusing to me. Why make a reservation if we still have to wait? Nonetheless, we were seated, and our server was very prompt and attentive. All of our meals came out very quickly, and were all very delicious. As far as a brunch place, this particular restaurant did not fit the aesthetic that I had in my head for a brunch location however, the brunch that is served is very delicious so if you’re looking for a really really great brunch menu, then this is absolutely the place but if you’re looking for a place that’s more like the aesthetic of brunch then you may want to consider another place. This restaurant is definitely a feel good, cozy place that you are going to get great food.

Houston's Hidden Gem for Chicken and Waffles and More!Craving some down-home Southern cooking with a modern twist? Look no further than Lucile's in Houston! I recently had the pleasure of dining there, and let me tell you, it was a delightful experience.

I was impressed from the moment they opened their doors, evident by the line forming instantly. Despite the busy atmosphere, the service was prompt. Note that there is a seating limit of 90 minutes. The signature biscuits, crispy and warm, were a delightful surprise with their flavorful filling. The catfish and grits portion was generous, with perfectly seasoned batter and impeccably cooked fish. The sweet potato waffle had a subtle sweetness that complemented the meal perfectly. Overall, a truly satisfying dining experience that I highly recommend for anyone craving authentic southern cuisine.

We have wanted to go to Lucille's for quite some time now and were able to grab a last minute lunch reservation on a Saturday.Cash only valet. There was a line out the door when we arrived, but we were seated immediately once we made it through the door. Our server took too long to greet us, but she was great otherwise. Not overly solicitous and arrived with the check as soon as we were ready for it.I ordered the Hot Chicken Sandwich. It was glorious and came with fries that were crispy and pillowy with the perfect amount of salt. My husband's Butcher Burger was delicious, too. We ordered the braised greens (hot and earthy and perfect) and the Mac and Cheese (rich and creamy and cheesey). It was an excellent meal and I cannot wait to go back.

Another good eatery in Houston. Stopped here for brunch and everything was delicious. My entree was the fried catfish and grits. Fish fried perfectly, grits seasoned and flavorful. Only downside is parking in which they do offer valet otherwise you'll have to find somewhere on the street which wasn't much of anything available when we were there. Pretty packed as well so I recommend making reservations when possible.

I stopped in for Dinner at Lucille's on 11/11/23, where we ordered the Biscuits, the Smothered Steak, and the Braised Oxtails. The value for money here is absurd - both the quality of food and the quantity on each plate is overwhelming. For <$100 we were incredibly satisfied, which was very impressive to me considering the ingredients were steak, etc.As individual points, I would highly recommend anything with their serrano cheddar grits, the braise oxtails were wildly flavorful and very juicy, and the biscuits were unique and entertaining.

Candace was an awesome waitress. My fish was seasoned and fried to perfection. The grits could've used a bit more au'jus and flavor bcz they didn't taste like anything, which was shocking compared to the fish. I was expecting savory but it was bland. My French Kiss was good flavor-wise but tasted like a mocktail instead of a co*cktail.I'll definitely visit again and try other items.

This was my first time at Lucille’s. Its a bit tight inside, I probably would’ve sat outside and it sounded like they had live music…that’s nice. Valet was also quick and had good service overall. The service was good when we sat down; we got bottled water and cornbread to start. The bottled water is from Austin, TX & comes in a glass bottle; it was good. The cornbread….just wasn’t all that to me; a 6/10. And the reason why is because it was doughy; but it WAS cooked…that was just the texture.Anywho we ordered catfish and grits, and an egg white oxtail omelette. The catfish was ok, the grits were a little firm. Very standard dish. The oxtail omelette….it wasn’t nasty it was just…. different. Like the two don’t go together. And it came with a sauce…idk it just wasn’t….to my liking. So i sent it back and got the french toast which was standard, but good. A 7/10.Um…I WOULD come back but only if Im in the area and there arent many other options. I feel like this is a place you come to, you order what you know is doable, and you move on.a 6/10 overall. Average place.

Lucille's had a very healthy crowd for brunch even up to closing at 3. I sat at the bar and had my food there. The bartender was working hard. Had the fried green tomatoes at the recommendation of the couple beside me and they were delicious. Ordered chicken and sweet potatoe waffles. Chicken was cooked perfectly while the waffle was overcooked and mostly inedible, but luckily I had those tomatoes to make up a complete meal. No one checked on me so I made comments about the waffle when I finally paid. Anyways, other dishes looked great as they passed by. I would try again.

First time in Texas, heard great things about the food in Houston, this was the first place I tried when I landed. The food and service were great. Linda was my server and she was very friendly and attentive. She let me know about the happenings and upcoming events at the restaurant . I will be sure to come back and try the oxtail omelette!
